The man they could not hang...

Nineteen year old john lee was a servant to very mean lady Emma keyse.He killed her in 1884, and was convicted and sentenced to hang. But when the hangman pulled the ever to send lee to death, the trap failed to open. Lee was taken away; they tested the gallows and found it was working. Once again lee was placed in position and yet again the trap failed to open. The only person who was calm was himself lee who had dreamed of not being hanged and he was not hanged at all .he was taken back to cell and kept in prison for twenty two years, dying a free man in 1933.
